Adult Learn to Sail
2025 Course Dates
RYA Level 1 (for over 16s)
A two-day weekend course which enables you obtain the RYA Sailing Scheme Level 1. With this qualification, you can join in with all other club activities at Trimpley.
A step by step 2 day course aimed at complete beginners providing you with the basic skills to be sailing independently within a couple of days. Practically based (i.e. no exam), with demonstrations/practice sessions on dry land before trying it out on the water, and plenty of time to practice before moving on to the next stage.
RYA Level 2 (for over 16s)
Once Level 1 is achieved, why not develop your skills to the next level, developing your confidence with a wider range of skills and and a development of your knowledge around how your boat works.
The minimum requirement for this course is RYA Level 1 (or equivalent).
Course requirements
There is a minimum requirement of 16 hours attending either course.
For Level 1 no sailing experience is necessary, and you don’t need to know how to swim, although water confidence does help.
For Level 2, a minimum of Level 1 (or equivalent) is required.
Course costs include training materials, including RYA qualified instructors, boat hire, log book and sailing guide. 3 months temporary membership of the Club is offered following qualification at Level 1, giving you the chance to practice the skills you have learnt, and sail with other Club sailors (who are always keen to help new sailors).
