Improving Your Skills

Improver Sessions

After learning to sail, you need to practice what you’ve learnt and then advance your techniques. Our improver sailing sessions allow you to do both of these things. With an emphasis on coaching rather than instructing, you take charge of your own sailing and we’ll give you some different points to focus on. We usually run improver sessions soon after our learn to sail courses and all members new and old are welcome to join in.

Coaching Days

Occasionally we have visiting RYA coaches who are able to spend a day going over some more advanced techniques with our club members. These may be focused on just one type of boat, racing skills or just plain old boat handling. You’ll learn something new whatever your level.

Youth squads

We love to see younger sailors out the water, and as well as support down at the club, we have several contacts around the region to help support youth development. WSSCA runs weekly training sessions and the opportunity to take part in national events at a low cost. The Optimist, Topper and Laser classes run regional development squads and several of our members have completed RYA courses at other nearby clubs.

Trips away

There’s a lot you can learn at Trimpley, but a it’s still important to get a broad range of experience and a trip away sailing will help you get that. Every year the club organises trips away, typically a social camping trip where you have the opportunity to sail your own boat on a larger expanse of water, or a trip to Plas Menai where you can try out different boats and get some top coaching from professional instructors. Either way, you’ll be surprised at how much you’re sailing develops when away.
