Platinum Jubilee Pursuit

Eleven boats competed for the Platinum Jubilee Pursuit races in blustery and often tricky sailing conditions.

First Race

In the first series of racing for GP14s Brian and Jean Boardman maintained a healthy lead and crossed the line in first place in front of the Keith Budden/ Simon Challand combo with Peter John and Sue in third position.

In the Laser fleet , Simon Yeomans flew away from the start line and was never challenged for the win. Mike Dalziel took second place and Toby Gammond came in third.

For the Menagerie fleet Lesley Freeman on her Solo beat Jacob Blakeway on his Topper. Jacob suffered problems from a previous injury which sadly forced his retirement for the rest of the day.

Second Race

In the second series of races Keith and Simon came in first place for the GPs followed by Brian and Jean.

The second Laser race was won by Toby who is fast becoming a force in the Laser class. Andy Allan took second place and Simon Y came in third.

Lesley Freeman sailed alone on her Solo to win both the second race and the medal for the Menagerie class. Well done Lesley.

Third Race

A third race was needed in both the GP and Laser classes to produce a medal winner. Sadly Brian and Jean couldn’t sail in the GP decider so Keith and Simon won the medal despite capsizing and being disqualified for outside assistance from the safety boat. Peter and Sue won the race and finished in third place over all.

In the Laser class , after two races, Simon and Toby were on level points. Toby had to rush off to a wedding so with Simon winning the deciding race he took the medal. Toby did however win the Top Junior medal – a very merited win .

Thanks to all sailors and spectators for a lively and enjoyable afternoon for HM’ s Jubilee. God save the Queen !
